Onno – Some Mo (Upon You Records)

Amongst those in the know, Onno has long been touted as one of Holland’s most uncompromisingly excellent DJs. In recent years, his stature as a producer has grown in line with his lofty reputation as a selector, chiefly as a result of his work at labels such as Get Physical, Remote Area and other esteemed labels a la Souvenir and Saved. It’s an approach that’s brilliantly conveyed on his latest EP, which comes at us from the always reliable Upon You label.

On this release, there’s a veritable slew of quality to get wrapped up in, whilst each one basks in its own personality. The original is Slow Mo, a heady slice of full-wedged techno that gets more and more hypnotic as it rolls on. An excellently produced record – and further proof of Onno’s stature in the studio. The remix duly arrives from Martin Landsky, a man who’s particularly well versed in such duties. His remix is a neat take on the original and one that is full of colour. “Stabbing Sally” completes the package with another stirring rendition of the producer’s capabilities. This time out, he ups the ante further with another rollocking jam that signifies his continuing techno sound. All things told, this is another cracking Onno release.
